When one mentions printing, most people immediately think of their printers at home or they think about newspapers and magazines. Even though these do account for a large amount of printed material, they really are just a drop in the ocean. In fact, approximately 14 billion pounds is spent on printing each year in the UK alone. To put it another way, that’s 1.7% of the country’s GDP.

Let’s face it, every business spends money because of printing needs, and in most companies, there are a vast number of employees making use of company printers for one reason or another. This sort of behaviour already makes it almost impossible for a company to track how much 30money is being spent on printing and printing supplies. To make matters even worse, different departments or different branches of a company are usually responsible for ordering their own supplies, thus making it even more difficult for a company to determine what the actual costs are. For this reason, most businesses simply estimate the cost when it comes to balancing their books, and while this may be acceptable to the accountants and to the tax man, it’s not doing the company much good at all.Things are starting to change however. With the global economy having been on the brink of collapse, more and more business are having to focus on reducing any and all unnecessary expenditure. Because of the complexities involved in monitoring printing costs, many businesses are handing the job over to dedicated print management services.

By doing so, the average company can reduce running costs significantly. Furthermore, by allowing a specialist company to take care of it, management is able to concentrate primarily on the core issues of the company in a bid to increase profits. Also, by using an outside agency, a company won’t have to employ others specifically for the task.
